ActiveSGV is proud to be a selected participant in the LA Food Equity Fund (LAFEF), an impactful initiative funded by the American Rescue Plan Act and facilitated by Community Partners in collaboration with the Los Angeles County’s Chief Sustainability Office. As one of 46 nonprofits chosen for our commitment to food equity and sustainability, ActiveSGV is excited to expand our initiatives to address nutrition and sustainable food practices in underserved areas of the San Gabriel Valley.
Our team is launching a series of community-driven efforts to promote healthier lifestyles and greater food equity. Led by certified health educators, we will offer 20 interactive nutrition education classes and 12 engaging food preparation demonstrations. These activities are designed to empower residents to create nutritious and budget-friendly meals while gaining practical cooking skills.
Additionally, ActiveSGV will host five community “Crop Swaps” where neighbors can exchange home-grown produce, share gardening tips, and enjoy a wide array of fresh, locally-sourced foods. These swaps not only help reduce food waste but also foster stronger community bonds and provide a fun, social platform for learning and sharing sustainable practices.
