Climate Ready Communities is a Los Angeles County program that helps neighborhoods stay safe and healthy as our summers get hotter. ActiveSGV is here in Avocado Heights and Bassett to listen. Your ideas will help decide what gets fixed first.

We are asking neighbors what they deal with every day and what would make life better. Your answers help us understand what matters most here. We will share what we hear with Los Angeles County, so the County can choose which projects to plan and which ones to seek funding for. The more neighbors we hear from, the stronger the case for Avocado Heights and Bassett.

Questions to get you thinking
There are three questions below. You do not need to answer all of them. Just answer the ones that matter to you. A few words is plenty.
Would you like to read the questions in Spanish, Chinese, or Vietnamese? Under each question, you will find a link to our workshop board. Each board is in all four languages and is easy to view on your phone or print.
1. What would you like to see fixed?
Think about your everyday life. What bothers you when you walk to the bus, take the kids to school, or spend time outside? Read the list below and pick up to three things. If something else comes to mind, tell us that too.
Air and industry: truck traffic, warehouses and metal yards next to homes, and dust and fumes in the air.
Heat, shade, and green space: not enough shade or street trees, hot schoolyards and playgrounds, and parks that need repair.
Water and streets: streets that flood when it rains, trash along the creek, and dark or unsafe sidewalks and crossings.
Home costs and getting around: high electricity bills, home repairs you cannot afford, and a hard time getting around without a car.
In your email, you might write, “For question 1, I picked truck traffic and hot playgrounds.”

2. What would make the biggest difference for you?
Now think about what would help. Which of these would make your daily life better? Pick up to three. It is okay if your answers are different from what you picked above.
Air and industry: more trees along sidewalks, truck routes away from homes and schools, and air filters for homes and schools.
Heat, shade, and green space: shade and benches at bus stops, shade at schools and parks, and new parks on empty lots.
Water and streets: rain gardens along the curb, fixes for corners that flood, and paving that lets rain soak in.
Getting around safely: street lights where sidewalks are dark, slower traffic where cars speed, and safer sidewalks and crossings along with a path by the creek.

3. Which streets should we look at first?
Is there a street you worry about? Maybe it floods, has no shade, or feels unsafe to cross. Tell us the street name and what happens there. If you are not sure of the name, a nearby school, park, or store helps us find it. The map below shows the area we are studying.
