ActiveSGV 2024 Election Voting Guide
This election presents a crucial opportunity to advance equity, sustainability, and community well-being in California and Los Angeles County. ActiveSGV supports each of these propositions and measures because they address key needs in our communities—investing in education, housing, environmental protections, workers’ rights, and public health. A YES vote on these initiatives will help secure critical funding for schools, increase access to affordable housing, improve wages, and provide necessary resources to address climate challenges and homelessness. Your vote can shape a better future for the San Gabriel Valley and beyond.
State Propositions
- Yes on Prop 2: Would authorize $10 billion in bonds for school facility improvements: $8.5 billion for elementary and secondary schools and $1.5 billion for community college facilities.
- Yes on Prop 4: Would authorize $10 billion in bonds to fund projects for clean drinking water, wildlife conservation, and climate resilience.
- Yes on Prop 5: Would lower the vote threshold requirement from two-thirds (66.67%) to 55% for local communities to issue bonds for affordable housing and public infrastructure projects.
- Yes on Prop 32: Would gradually increase the state minimum wage to $18 per hour. Employers with 26 or more workers reach $18 by January 1, 2025, while those with 25 or fewer workers reach $18 by January 1, 2026. After reaching $18, the minimum wage will be adjusted based on inflation.
- Yes on Prop 33: Repeals the Costa-Hawkins Rental Housing Act, allowing cities and counties to set rent control measures, including limits for first-time tenants.
- Yes on Prop 35: This rule makes a tax for health care plans permanent. The tax is charged each month for every person in the plan. Before, this tax had to be approved again every few years. The most anyone can be taxed is $2.50 per person each month, and the total money collected each year can’t go over $36 million, with some adjustments for rising costs.
LA County Measures
- Yes on Measure A: Would replace the Measure H tax with a 1/2 cent sales tax to fund affordable housing, support homeownership, provide rental assistance, enhance mental health and addiction services, reduce homelessness, and support vulnerable groups including children, families, veterans, domestic violence survivors, seniors, and people with disabilities.
- Yes on Measure G: Would expand the Board of Supervisors from five to nine members, require annual public budget presentations from County departments, create an elected County Executive, establish an independent Ethics Commission with increased lobbying restrictions, and introduce a nonpartisan Legislative Analyst to review policies.
