Noche 2026 Honoree: SGV Greenway Network Strategic Implementation Plan - Outstanding SGV Plan

The Outstanding SGV Plan award recognizes an effort that changes how the valley moves and connects. This year, it goes to the SGV Greenway Network Strategic Implementation Plan.

The San Gabriel Valley Greenway Network is one of the most ambitious active transportation projects in California. The initiative launched in 2014 with a bold goal: transform over 100 miles of flood-control channels, washes, and creeks that feed the San Gabriel and Rio Hondo Rivers. Instead of fenced-off concrete, these corridors can become a connected network of paths for walking, biking, and rolling, with shade, native habitat, and better stormwater management along the way.  In 2019, a foundational study identified the 50 miles of waterways best suited for early greenway development. Among the first segments is the Baldwin Park Greenway, which will run for more than 5 miles along the Walnut Creek, Big Dalton Wash, and San Gabriel River on a protected path, separated from car traffic.

After five years of work by Los Angeles County Public Works, their consultant Brown and Caldwell, and engaged community members, the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors adopted the SGV Greenway Network Strategic Implementation Plan in December 2025. The plan will help guide implementation of the network in the coming years, providing agencies with detailed technical study and prioritization of over a dozen greenway corridors.

Recognized here as the Outstanding SGV Plan, the SGV Greenway Network Implementation Plan demonstrates what the valley can look like when public agencies, advocates, and residents work together to build toward a healthier, more connected future.

We would love for you to help us celebrate SGV Greenway Network Implementation Plan at this year's Noche de las Luminarias, ActiveSGV's annual awards ceremony and gala. It will be a warm evening of community and recognition for the people working toward a more sustainable, equitable, and livable San Gabriel Valley. Every ticket also helps support ActiveSGV's work across mobility, climate, health and wellness, and parks and greening.

Spend the evening with us on Thursday, September 17, 2026, from 6 to 9 PM at the Grapevine Arbor in San Gabriel. You can learn more about the event and reserve your tickets in advance. We would be so glad to see you there.
