Merced Avenue Linear Park, completed by the City of El Monte in partnership with Alta Planning + Design, has been recognized as this year’s Outstanding SGV Project. Located between Towneway Drive and Garvey Avenue, this park is designed to enhance community life by increasing safety, accessibility, and leisure opportunities. As a transformative development, it supports a healthier, more connected community by integrating green spaces, recreational paths, and community-focused amenities.
The park features landscaped areas with native plants and shade trees, promoting ecological health through sustainable landscaping and stormwater management. Separate walking and biking paths ensure all users' safety, encouraging active lifestyles. Including play areas, public art spaces, and new lighting and furnishings positions the park as a central hub for community activities, fostering a strong sense of belonging among residents.
Community engagement was pivotal to the park’s design and implementation, with the city conducting surveys and continuously seeking feedback from residents. This collaborative approach helped tailor the park to meet community needs and preferences, making residents integral to the project's success. Completed in 2023, the park has enhanced the physical landscape and strengthened community bonds by providing a vibrant space for outdoor gatherings and activities.
We are thrilled to celebrate the City of El Monte, its dedicated staff, and the visionary planning teams, who brought Merced Avenue Linear Park to life.
