Noche 2024 - Outstanding City Staff - Steven Mateer

Steven Mateer, the Transportation Manager for the City of Glendora and this year's recipient of Outstanding City Staff, has been instrumental in reshaping the city's approach to transportation. Under his guidance, Glendora has witnessed the advancement of innovative planning, design, and infrastructure projects, paving the way for a more sustainable and accessible future.

During the challenging times of the pandemic, Steven played a pivotal role in enabling safer outdoor business operations in Glendora's historic business district. The introduction of outdoor dining 'parklets' and pedestrian plazas not only provided vital support to local businesses but also enhanced the community's vibrancy.

In anticipation of the A-Line Station's opening in 2025, Steven has spearheaded the implementation of Glendora's First-Last Mile and Active Transportation Plans. This has led to the development of a 10-mile Glendora Urban Trail and Greenway Network, creating new opportunities for residents to enjoy active transportation.

Steven's expertise in collaborating with partners at all levels of government has been critical in securing competitive funding for various transportation initiatives. His efforts have resulted in millions of dollars in awards, enabling the city to invest in zero-emission buses, pedestrian improvements, dedicated bikeways, regional greenways, and the San Gabriel Valley's first protected intersection.

Before joining the City of Glendora, Steven contributed to capital planning for active transportation, highway, and transit projects at the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (LA Metro). He also played a key role in the development of LA Metro's First/Last Mile Strategic Plan.

Steven holds a Master's Degree in urban planning from UCLA and a Bachelor's Degree in urban studies and Planning from UCSD. He is a passionate hockey fan and enjoys spending quality time outdoors with his family.

Join us in honoring Steven Mateer at our award ceremony and dinner on Thursday, September 12, at the San Gabriel Grapevine Arbor.
