Meda Plazas, 2023 Noche Honoree for Outstanding Demonstration Project, was initiated in Glendora in 2019 and reimagines public spaces via parklets and swift projects. During the pandemic, the project expanded, temporarily closing sections of Meda Avenue to establish outdoor dining and forging partnerships with local restaurants for seven parklets. The strategic proximity of Glendora Village to the Metro A Line construction heightened economic prospects.
In March 2021, Glendora City Council kickstarted enhancements for Meda Ave. and the Bus Plaza. Collaborating with stakeholders, design concepts evolved, culminating in October with final plans. These encompassed essential infrastructure enhancements such as shade and lighting poles, street furniture, artistic murals, and a central fire pit, all woven together by a cohesive citrus-themed design. Notably, the Bus Plaza was revitalized with versatile cube seating, planters, and a captivating beach ball balloon canopy, now hosting regular concerts and future events, including the City's Christmas Tree display.
A distinctive aspect of this undertaking was the City's role as a contractor, yielding cost efficiencies and adept supply chain management. Since its inauguration, Meda Plazas have attracted over 500 monthly visitors, elevating the allure of Glendora Village as a vibrant communal hub. The project's success is envisioned to further cultivate foot traffic and appreciation for the area's aesthetics and amenities.
