Every day is Earth Day here at ActiveSGV! We only have one Earth, so we've got to take care of the one we've got. Across the San Gabriel Valley, residents are coming together to clean up their neighborhoods, grow food, green their schools, and get around without a car. Here are some ways to get involved this month.

Volunteer with the Rain Gardens Team. This month, our Rain Gardens Team is out across the SGV transforming everyday spaces into stormwater gardens. These gardens are built with California native plants that capture rain, reduce runoff, and support local habitat. What might look like a simple patch of land becomes a space that manages water, cools the area, and brings life back into the neighborhood. There are three upcoming opportunities to join:
- April 23 — Rain Gardens Volunteer Day 723 Montecito Dr, San Gabriel | 8:30 AM
- April 26 — Rain Gardens Volunteer Day 724 S 7th St, Alhambra | 8:30 AM
- May 3 — Rain Gardens Volunteer Day 1217 S 5th St, Alhambra | 8:30 AM

Merced Ave Greenway: Community Beautification Event. Help beautify the Merced Avenue Greenway right in your own neighborhood. This is a great chance to connect with neighbors and help make your community a more vibrant, welcoming place.
- April 25 — Merced Ave Greenway Community Beautification Event Corner of Hayward Way & Merced Avenue, South El Monte | 10:00 AM

Tour a Green Schoolyard. Schoolyards that were once dominated by asphalt are being reimagined into spaces with shade, plants, and areas for exploration. These changes support student health, enhance outdoor learning, and create welcoming environments for families and staff. The Green Schools Tour visits multiple locations across the SGV so you can see these transformations in person and understand what it takes to make them possible.
- May 2 — Green Schools Tour Multiple SGV locations | 9:00 AM

Crop Swap at Jeff Seymour Family Center. Our Crop Swap events bring neighbors together around food, sharing, and community care. If you have extra fruits, vegetables, or herbs from your garden, bring them to trade with others. No garden? No problem. You are still welcome to join, learn, and connect. These gatherings help reduce food waste, support local growing, and make fresh produce more accessible.
- April 26 — Crop Swap at Jeff Seymour Family Center 10900 Mulhall St, El Monte | 9:00 AM

Ride with us through GoSGV. One of the best ways to care for our planet is to get out of the car and onto two wheels. Through GoSGV, residents can access electric bikes, making it easier to stay active while reducing reliance on cars. The program includes equity memberships designed to remove barriers and make this option more accessible to everyone in the SGV.

The SGV is full of people who care about where they live. Come out, meet your neighbors, and be part of the change you want to see in your community.
The work is already happening. We hope to see you out there!
