Ensuring Safe and Confident Young Cyclists: The Rio Hondo Bicycle Instruction Classes

ActiveSGV recently conducted bicycle safety instruction classes for 3rd graders at Rio Hondo Elementary. The program encompassed a full spectrum of bicycle safety education. It began with off-bike lessons, teaching students about helmet fitting, road rules, and essential handling skills. After these foundational lessons, students engaged in hands-on, on-bike training. This comprehensive approach offered the students a great chance to develop their cycling abilities in a supportive and enjoyable environment.

Understanding bike safety is essential not just for young riders but also for the community. Investing in bike safety education protected our children and encouraged a lifetime of healthy, active transportation, contributing to a safer and healthier community. Classes like the ones hosted at Rio Hondo Elementary will also help reduce the risk of injuries and foster a culture of responsible riding. Of the 19 students who participated in the course, 13 learned how to ride a bike for the first time through our program. While one student is still working towards biking confidently, all 19 students have gained a comprehensive understanding of bike safety.
