Ernie Gonzalez has volunteered with ActiveSGV, often serving as an eager and dedicated ride marshal on community bike rides. With Ernie's help, ActiveSGV has ensured that our bike rides are safe, enjoyable, and family-friendly. He has even helped recruit other volunteers to the ride marshaling cause!
Ernie has spent most of his life living and biking in the San Gabriel Valley. He graduated from Cal Poly Pomona, earning a Bachelor’s degree and a teaching credential. In the classroom, Ernie incorporates his love for cycling, specifically his love of bike touring. As Ernie sees it, “Introducing students to bike touring can help me teach them to think about geography, cultures, and the intricacies of travel more critically, plus I hope it encourages them to go out and ride a bike!” Ernie’s love of cycling and volunteering has even led him to find romantic love. Ernie met the love of his life, May, while participating in one of ActiveSGV’s bike programs.
While Ernie now lives in the OTHER valley, he still frequents THE real valley and looks forward to opportunities to continue volunteering with ActiveSGV. Ernie said, “If volunteering means ActiveSGV can continue to do what they do or expand their services, then I’m happy to help!”
ActiveSGV's annual awards party, Noche de las Luminarias, honors people making strides to realize a more sustainable, equitable, and livable San Gabriel Valley. On 9/22/22, we are excited to once again host the event in a beautiful outdoor setting at Grapevine Arbor in the City of San Gabriel.
